May comic! Happy mental health awareness month. 🐝 Comic brought to you by my constant worry that I don’t exist if I have nothing to show for myself.
Advice to my past self: Read about burnout. Stretch. Stand up. Get lunch. Ask for extensions. Get help. Sleep. Take time off if you need to, don’t ask. Take care of yourself.

This is insane
the podcast ‘endless thread’ did an episode on this called ‘catfish for dinner’ where they investigated the origin of the story! tl;dr a tiktoker who posts fake drama stories made it up for clout and it’s based on nothing.
Well, I personally learned out of this that a TikTok invented this story for clicks. RIP to you but I’m different

The above is a video shared by smrchildsadness on Twitter, showing a person participating in a pride parade exchanging a pride flag with a person standing on his (am using his pronoun based on the TikToks/Tweets of what happened) doorway who had a Portuguese flag. There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.
The Tweet says: “NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN’T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE’S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I’M EMOTIONALLY RUINED”
For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he’s a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn’t have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.
The image above is a Tweet by kunwara_ladkaa that says “I’m crying so much right now (Image taken by Manuel Fernando Araújo/Lusa)”. The image shows the same man from the pride parade crying as he hugs his new pride flag.
The above image is a Tweet by dudz_zZzz that says “ainda não parei de pensar nele,” which according to Google translate from Portuguese to English is “I still haven’t stopped thinking about him.” The image is a drawing of the person from the pride parade, crying as he hugs his new pride flag.

I support piracy obviously but I double support academic piracy because there’s not even any argument to be made about taking away royalty money from academics, you don’t get paid for publications, you’re literally just submitting your work to a private publishing house that makes millions of dollars off of it
oh it’s not even that we don’t get any money off our publications, we also generally have to pay to publish.
from nature, a prestigious scientific publication:
“From 2021, the publisher will charge €9,500, US$11,390 or £8,290 to make a paper open access (OA) in Nature and 32 other journals that currently keep most of their articles behind paywalls and are financed by subscriptions.”
us researchers, we have to pay up to $11,390 to publish. nature’s are the highest, but it is typical to pay multiple thousands of dollars.
We also do all the content editing as volunteers, which is what peer review is. Journals typically only contribute copy editing and coordinate peer review.
It’s awful!
Academic papers require you to include an email address under your author name, by the way - email us and ask for a copy. We’ll gladly give it to you for free

Just learned that the NYPD apparently edited their own fucking Wikipedia page to make themselves look better 😀
ACAB 🐷🖕🥰
Bruh moment
If you look at the edit history, this is an ongoing fight, and the NYPD is anonymous 90% of the time:
For people new to the Wikipedia edit scene (like me), the red numbers are how many characters were removed, and the green are how many added.
The devil works hard, but Wikipedians work harder.
